MarketReady Indiana Food Production Workshop

Farmers and small-business owners interested in selling their food products can learn ways to make their businesses safe and profitable through two workshops geared towards “scaling up” a food business and developing a business plan.

The first workshop, MarketReady Indiana, will be offered on Saturday, February 9th, from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm at the Southern Hills Church, 1645 S. State Road 135 Salem. This workshop features sessions on each stage of food marketing, including quality assurance, pricing, insurance, and relationship building. Target audience includes traditional farmers seeking to diversify, small farmers seeking to expand their markets, owners of small businesses such as bakeries or dairies, and producers of value added farm products such as flour, jellies, jams or salsa. A panel of buyers and producers will also be featured during the workshop. The cost for materials and lunch is $60 per person and $30 per additional person from the same farm. Deadline to register is February 1st.

The second workshop, Good Agriculture Practices from A to Z, will be offered on Saturday, March 9th, from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm in two locations, the Washington County Extension Office, 806 Martinsburg Rd. Salem and the Crawford County Fairgrounds, 1095 Indiana 66 S. Marengo. This workshop features sessions on health & hygiene, water quality and treatment, animals and animal products, sanitation on the farm, documentation & record keeping, and farm food safety plans. Target audience is current and prospective fruit and vegetable farmers, market gardeners, and managers of community gardens that distribute produce to the public. The workshop’s goal is to present current science-based information on how to reduce risk of contamination during production of fruits and vegetables, as well as provide practical knowledge on planning and documenting food safety practices from planting through marketing. The cost for materials and lunch is $40 per person and $20 per additional person from the same farm. Deadline to register is March 1st.

Both programs help to develop a business plan for any producer. By attending both workshops you will be able to build your business plan and develop a better business overall.  By registering for both workshops by February 1st, we are offering $10 off the registration fee!
