Dustin was first elected in 2006, and with his re-election in 2014, he became the first three term prosecutor in the history of Washington County. Prior to his service in the role, he operated a successful law practice in Salem, where he gained insight into the criminal justice system through his work as a public defender. Dustin is a graduate of Indiana University School of Law at Indianapolis, and earned his undergraduate degree in political science from Indiana University.
During his tenure as prosecutor, Dustin has been actively engaged in the community. He serves as president of the Washington county Substance Abuse Council and as president of the Community Corrections Advisory Board. He has also served on boards for the Youth First of Washington County and the local YMCA. In 2009, Dustin was nominated for Washington County Citizen of the year. In addition, Dustin currently serves as Chair of the Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council, and as Vice-Chair of the Association of Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Legislative Committee. Dustin gained valuable experience in the legislature early in his career working as a legislative assistant in the Indiana House of Representatives.
Dustin lives in Salem with his wife, State Senator Erin Houchin, and their three children.
